Welcome to this website, it’s great that you’re droppin’ by! Take a look around and when you are done, please feel free to leave a note in the notebook. I love to hear what you think of POM and all the others... And if you would like to have one of the characters (well, maybe all J), in a huggable plush toy version, just let me know and I will see what I can do! Well, You’ve come this far; why not read the story of POM? Besides a cute smile, there is more than meets the eye! The story of POM and all the others The story of POM is one of history and present melted together into a few characters. Growing up, both me and my sister had one parakeet. Pim, a blue bird with a strong will and there was my bird, Pom. A green and friendly bird. They enjoyed eachothers company for many years. But then tragedy hit... Pim died. And left Pom behind. All alone and immensely saddened. We all thought that Pom would soon follow his life’s companions fate, but Pom surprised us all. He did not. What was left was a very sad bird and my heart broke sometimes looking at this tiny bird which grew thinner everyday and loosing more and more feathers. But life goes on and being a child you soon get other interests... I wanted a hamster. So there came Keesje. Pom on one side of the livingroom and Keesje on the other side. And that’s when I discovered that the need of being loved and give love in return is a powerful instinct. Pom started to immitate Keesjes’ sounds. He even started to organize the sand on the bottom of the cage just like a hamster does to make his hole! All for the sole purpose to make contact with Keesje. I was stunned to see this process in action. Pom looked much happier and seemed really pleased with this new companion. There were moments that I thought that Keesje even responded to all these efforts. But the chance of that was slim I’m afraid; Keesje was sweet but not very clever! Pom died not long after finding this new friendship, but at least he went as a happy bird. A couple of month’s ago I dreamt of this little character running around in my head. This may sound rediculous, but for me it’s a normal creative process. All I had to do was to make it stop running so I could take a good look and draw it. It stopped running... And a character was born. And I realized at that point that I had found and created my dream. And it stared back at me! How great is that?! Immediately I started to draw this character at least once a day. When I thought of a name, Pom was my first and only thought. He was my inspiration. So I named it POM. Soon after designing POM, a few other characters were ‘born’. DOT, POP, PIP and POMPOM arrived and were here to stay. They are all different, in looks and in character, but they all have one thing in common. They have a lot of love to give and all they want in return is... your love! They are not predetermined to be a boy or a girl; they can be both! Being a bit of a pessimist myself (unfortunately), I try to surround myself with happy things, colors and energetic people. It helps to keep up the good spirit and it does make a difference in my perspective to life. That’s probably why these characters are so happy; who needs more cloudy weather in a world full of war, pollution and indifference... Not me. POM and the others are designed to put a smile on your face and who knows, maybe in the near future you will be able to actually hug them! I’m really busy with turning them into plush toys. In a big size, so there is more to hug J! So please drop by from time to time and check any updates on Flickr (just follow the link on this site). Thanks for taking the time to read all this! That’s what friends do... Love, Adianne (Forgot to introduce myself J; I’m the designer of these lovely creatures...) |
